why is it illegal to download something that is broadcast free to the viewer?
Firstly because they own the rights so it depends on them who they share it with and how. Secondly: It was made by their money what they get back if you watch it so they get more advert proposal or when they sell it as a dvd or when foreign countries tv channels buy the show. If you share it, there will be less dvd buyer so they earn less money.
I wouldn't be able to watch it otherwise
I pay my sattelite bill and they air Chuck. It is however not possible with my working hours so I do watch it on quasy illegal sites without feeling guilty since I have paid for the show and Sweden is so far behind on episodes so it doesn't affect ratings.
Yeah cause I'm in Australia and we have to watch it online if we're even half decent Chuck fans! :D

Same here. In New Zealand we are only just up to the final episode of Season 3 next week. I watched one Season 4 episode when it first came out and was hooked!

When I was in US visiting my sister for 4 weeks I watched Chuck live and when I was back in Sri Lanka(yeah that’s where I was born and live) I catched 1st two season in AXN(Asian cable channel) and after that only way to watch Chuck for me is torrents and other warez sites.Buying DVD’s online and bringing ‘em here costs me dvd prize + 50% tax(yeah my “greaT” government put 50% tax for online DVD sales and ebay items,even it is a small 1$ thing.I know that is crap but what can I do :( :( ) which will costs me like 100$ for single season,I don’t have 400$ kinda money for a tv series O.o.Anyway when my sister visit here in 2011 she will buy and bring me all 3 seasons-legit which I will pay later,and that will be profit for NBC(WB ofc :P ).This is the story for most of outside US Chuck(and any other tv series fans,I do same for HIMYM,HF-0,NCIS,WWE Raw,Kyle XY,Leverage) fans and gladly in my countries law atm torrents are not illegal,won’t be illegal for some time too(they got bag loads of other crisis’s than torrents and warez right now) :P :P :P .About the topic heading of course no.

I agree with all other comments.For me to feel good about myself, I buy every season DVD from Amazon in blu ray (even though I live in Sweden) and watch the show on swedish channels even when they're on season 3!
NBC should take actions with this problem. So they will know how many viewers watch Chuck around the world!

Sorry NBC... my country is way behind, season 2 ep. 3 and after the first season long ago here in Denmark I also started the torrent path, the show is just THAT good :)
If only NBC would allow download or stream via NBC.com outside US I would gladly pay money for that service. Go Chuck.... :)
this only shows how great is Chuck. And yes, I also leave out of the US and the only way I can watch Chuck is by downloading it. If NBC made a copyright with world wide channels to air Chuck, it would see their gains increasing like 10x... They know who are the US spects (around 5.5 millions) what they don´t know is the world dimension :)

I watched the pilot on TV, and there was no further series. And I really liked it, so I looked for a series on the net, and saw that it had already started the 3. season. I have not slept for 7 nights in a row as I needed to review the first and second season.
Now I'm hooked on the series and can hardly wait for the next episode.

As many before said, I'm from Slovakia and I can't watch it here, because on NBC.com can watch things only americans. But I don't use torrent to download :) If they could coun't things like fileserve.com and rapidshare.com etc., they would've found more people. If I didn't wanna cross the law, I'd have to wait enormous ammount of time to watch it in here, but with terrible dabbing.
I would watch it on TV, but NBC is 'blocked'. Though there is a channel I can watch with a French translate(that I understand cause i'm bilingual)... they are only in middle season 3 now... So i download it cause I want to re-watch episodes, in English, with the original voices.
As chuck fan in Australia its just getting to hard .
Sites are being blocked... I've watched most of chuck on line, but I still went and bought all the seasons on DVD.
We can't wait till next year to buy season 4

I just have to repeat what the others have said. The only way for me to watch Chuck is doing so illegally, sadly. Unless I want to watch season two. It's the same as with any other show, perhaps the networks should think about that.. I'd happily pay to stream HD Chuck from NBC's website.

Pirating shows = shows get canceled due to no one watching them when they are aired, and lack of puchicing the dvds through legal means.
